About Me

Hello there and a warm welcome to my website. I'm Phoebe and in the interest of helping you make your decision of whether you think you would like to work with me, I will start by telling you a bit about myself. I am 27 years old, bisexual, and have a mixed heritage background of British and Jamaican. You might be wondering why any of this is relevant, but as the most important aspect of counselling is forming a good therapeutic relationship, it will be just as helpful for you to know some of the conditioning that I will bring into the therapy room as it will be for me to know the same about you.

Another integral part of my approach to counselling relates to my practice as a Buddhist. The name of my business, Karuna, means compassion in Pali which is an ancient Indian language commonly used in Buddhist teachings. My reasoning for choosing this name is that compassion lies at the heart of my counselling approach as well as in my daily life, and I thought it meaningful to integrate the two. Furthermore, the flower you can see as part of my logo is a lotus flower: a frequently used symbol in Buddhism. In nature, the lotus is only able to grow in muddy, swamp-like conditions, and once it reaches the surface of the water, it blooms into a beautiful, brightly coloured flower. This has been used to represent the struggle and suffering that human beings endure before reaching a state of inner peace, which is the process I see my clients going through.
